DoneThen is made by Chelodo B.V., a small company in the Netherlands, and a person answers every email. It helps to say which iPhone or iPad you use, its iOS version, and what happened.
Setting up your child’s device
Keep your iPhone and your child’s iPhone or iPad next to each other.
- On your iPhone, in DoneThen’s Family tab, tap Add a child. Choose whether their chores earn screen time.
- On your child’s page, tap Set up a device. A QR code and a 6-digit code appear. They work for 10 minutes.
- On your child’s device, open DoneThen, tap This is my child’s device, then scan the code. You can type the 6 digits instead.
- With screen time on, tap Turn on Screen Time. If your child’s Apple Account is in your Family Sharing group, you approve it with your own Apple Account on their device.
- Choose the apps that need minutes. They lock right away, until your child earns minutes.
No child’s Apple Account on the device?
On a hand-me-down phone or a family iPad still signed in with an adult’s account, iOS won’t approve Screen Time for a child. DoneThen explains this and offers Use it anyway: the device’s owner approves with Face ID or the passcode, and the limits work the same. But anyone who can unlock the device can turn them off in Settings or delete DoneThen, so your app shows the device as less strict. For full protection, sign the device in with your child’s own Apple Account in Family Sharing, then pair it again.
Changing the apps later
On your child’s device, tap For parents and enter a one-time code from your child’s page in your app, or your family PIN if you set one in Settings.
Stickers and QR codes
Which stickers to buy
NFC stickers of the NTAG213 or NTAG215 type (NTAG216 works too). Make sure they aren’t locked or read-only. Metal, like a dishwasher or fridge door, can stop an ordinary sticker from working: for metal, pick stickers sold as on-metal or anti-metal. Ideas for where to stick them are in Guides and ideas.
Pairing a sticker with a chore
Add a chore, or open one in the Chores tab, and pair a tag. Hold the top of your iPhone close to the sticker until DoneThen says the tag is ready. One sticker can serve several children: the minutes go to the child whose device taps it.
Printing QR codes
iPads can’t read NFC, so every tag also has a QR code. In the Chores tab, tap Print all QR codes (the printer button) for a sheet of your tags’ codes, A4 or Letter, each with its chore’s name. Your child scans them in DoneThen or with the Camera app.
Tapping with the app closed
On an iPhone with its screen on, tapping a tag shows a notification. Tapping it opens DoneThen and counts the chore.
A lost or moved sticker
Mark the chore done from your child’s page, so nothing is lost, and pair a new sticker. Stickers can be written again, so you can reuse one for another chore.
Apps locked with minutes left
Sometimes iOS can’t tell DoneThen how much time was used. When that happens, DoneThen keeps the limited apps locked rather than leaving them open, and the minutes wait. DoneThen’s screen over the locked app says so, and a notification on the device opens DoneThen in one tap. Opening DoneThen sets it right.
If it keeps happening, restart the device and write to us with its iOS version.

Changing your own limits
Your limits are protected once your first day is over. To change your apps or limits, tap one of your tags or start the 10-minute wait; without tags, the wait is the way. Changes then stay open for 10 minutes. Adding and changing habits, seeing your week, notifications, your subscription and deleting your account are always open.
A new habit that doesn’t count yet
While your limits are protected, a new habit, or one changed to earn more, starts earning 10 minutes later, and Today shows when, like “From 20:42”. If changes are open when you save it, it earns at once.
Earned breaks
Turn them on in Settings, under Your limits. Once your minutes run out, Take a break offers your games. If the walk doesn’t count your steps, allow Motion & Fitness for DoneThen in your iPhone’s Settings: the walk’s Open Settings button goes there. Ideas for habits and breaks are in Guides and ideas.
Turning it off
You can always remove DoneThen’s Screen Time access in your iPhone’s Screen Time settings, or delete DoneThen. To stop DoneThen properly, use Stop DoneThen on this iPhone in its Settings, after a tag tap or the 10-minute wait, as for any change to your limits.
A new phone
DoneThen limits one phone at a time. Setting it up on a new phone moves it there, and the old phone stops limiting.
Subscriptions and refunds
Subscriptions are bought and managed through Apple. One subscription covers the whole family, so only one parent needs to subscribe.
- To subscribe
- In DoneThen’s Settings on your iPhone, tap See plans, or Subscribe once the trial is over.
- To cancel or change a plan
- In DoneThen’s Settings, tap Manage subscription. Or in your iPhone’s Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then DoneThen. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to stop the next renewal.
- To ask for a refund
- Apple handles payments, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- On a new phone
- In DoneThen’s Settings, tap Restore purchases.
After the free trial without a subscription, earning pauses. Your child keeps their minutes and stamp book, and you can still see everything, unpair a device or delete your account. Subscribing starts earning again.
Deleting your account
In DoneThen, go to Settings, Delete account. If you’re the family’s last parent, this deletes your family’s data and devices, and ends DoneThen’s link to your Apple ID. If another parent stays, the family stays with them.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings as well.
To lift the limits on one child’s device, unpair it from your child’s page in your app. You can also stop it on the device itself: tap For parents, then Stop using DoneThen here.
Your data
To get a copy of your family’s data, open DoneThen and go to Settings, Get a copy of your data. With any question about privacy, write to contact@chelodo.com. The privacy policy explains what DoneThen keeps and for how long.
Report a problem or illegal content
If you see something in DoneThen that you think is illegal or could harm a child, or someone set up DoneThen on a device without the right to, tell us. Anyone can report, with or without a DoneThen account. A person reads every report.
Write to contact@chelodo.com with “Report” in the subject, and tell us:
- what the content is and where it is in DoneThen: for example the chore, challenge, stamp or note, whose app shows it, and the date;
- why you think it’s illegal or harmful, and which law, if you know;
- your name and email address. You don’t have to give them if your report is about child sexual abuse material;
- that you believe your report is accurate and complete.
Please don’t send us child sexual abuse material, even to report it. Describe it instead.
We confirm we got your report, normally within one working day, and deal with anything about a child’s safety first. A person decides, without automated tools, and we tell you the decision and how you can challenge it. If we remove content or restrict an account, we tell the person concerned why, unless the law doesn’t allow it or it would put someone at risk.
If you disagree with a decision, reply to our email within six months and we’ll look at it again. You can also go to court, or complain to the Digital Services Coordinator where you live in the EU (in the Netherlands, the ACM). In the UK, you can tell Ofcom. Our terms explain the rules.
If someone is in danger now, call the emergency number: 112 in Europe, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US. You can also report child sexual abuse material anonymously to a hotline: Offlimits in the Netherlands, the Internet Watch Foundation in the UK, or NCMEC’s CyberTipline in the US.
